WWE have spent much of 2025 counter-programming major All Elite Wrestling events, and it seems as though they could pit John Cena’s last match against AEW Worlds End.

Reports this week stated that WWE were looking to run John Cena vs. Brock Lesnar directly against AEW All Out in September, with follow-on reports suggesting this would not be the last time in 2025 that WWE would counter-programme AEW. Taking to Wrestling Observer Live, Bryan Alvarez suggested that WWE are changing plans to run against Worlds End:

“Originally, the final John Cena match was going to be in early December, Saturday Night’s Main Event,” Alvarez said. “And this is not confirmed, okay, but it does look like there is now discussion that the date will be moved so it will be head-to-head with AEW Worlds End.”

Alvarez continued: “We did talk about how there’s going to be one more of these before the year was out, and I think they’re going to try and put the final John Cena match on Saturday Night’s Main Event in Boston head-to-head with Worlds End.”

Originally, WWE were counter-programming AEW pay-per-view events with NXT PLE specials, but have since counter-programmed with main roster shows, such as Goldberg vs. Gunther at Saturday Night’s Main Event in July which ran the weekend of AEW All In Texas (alongside other WWE shows).
