It was revealed earlier this year that Goldberg will officially be having a retirement match in 2025 to finally close out his professional wrestling career on his own terms and bid farewell to the fans. Goldberg returned to WWE on this past week’s episode of Monday Night RAW to challenge Gunther for a World Heavyweight Championship match at Saturday Night’s Main Event on July 12, which will take place in Goldberg’ home of Atlanta, Georgia. However, at the time nothing was mentioned by those involved or by WWE about whether this would be a retirement match, or whether Goldberg was planned for more in 2025 before hanging up the boots.
However, despite a few days of speculation on this front, it has now finally been officially revealed by WWE that Goldberg vs. Gunther will in fact be the last ever match for the Hall Of Famer. On WWE.com in a ticket announcement, the following was said on the match;
“WWE today announced that individual event tickets for Saturday Night’s Main Event in Atlanta on Saturday, July 12 – headlined by Goldberg’s final match versus WWE World Heavyweight Champion Gunther.”
Goldberg revealed recently that he wasn’t satisfied with his previous match against Roman Reigns for a variety of reasons, so wanted to return for a better send-off. Former WWE Champion Big E also spoke this week following Goldberg’s comeback, and noted that he would’ve loved to have been the one to wrestle against Goldberg in his last match.
