The future of WWE's pay-per-view calendar was recently placed up in the air after TKO President Mark Shapiro noted the company was looking to move past "PLEs" created by Vince McMahon.
This would result in a drastic change for pay-per-views, with 2025 featuring Royal Rumble, Elimination Chamber, WrestleMania, Backlash, Money in the Bank, Night of Champions, Evolution, SummerSlam, and Crown Jewel, which were all created during Vince McMahon's tenure at the top of WWE.
In an update on the situation, however, WWE higher-ups have told Fightful Select they don't believe moving past Vince McMahon-created events will apply to the company's tentpole shows. The changes are instead likely to impact WWE's other monthly pay-per-views.
The higher-up specifically said: "Saudi Arabia isn’t paying for Wrestlepalooza, they're paying for WrestleMania, and the value of that name and brand is the reason for that."
WWE's Big Five is composed of the Royal Rumble, WrestleMania, SummerSlam, Money in the Bank, and Survivor Series.
Wrestlepalooza was one of the few new WWE pay-per-views on the calendar in 2025, although the event name was previously utilised in Extreme Championship Wrestling during the 1990s. WWE are hoping to establish Wrestlepalooza as a marquee event in the years to come in order to help domestic ticket sales and site fees when the likes of the Royal Rumble and WrestleMania are held outside of North America.
