Brock Lesnar looks stern during his surprise return at SummerSlam 2025

WWE executives, such as Triple H, have been universally positive about Brock Lesnar's return to the company at SummerSlam 2025, but this positivity isn't prevalent throughout the organisation.

After being asked on a Fightful Select Answers Q&A about the backstage reaction to Brock Lesnar's return, Sean Ross Sapp noted there were "very mixed emotions" within the company. Not everyone within WWE is looking to simply sweep the allegations against Lesnar under the rug, but Fightful noted they don't believe anyone is actively going to walk out of the company either.

Brock Lesnar's return in the closing moments of SummerSlam came two years after his last WWE appearance. A return in early 2024 was scrapped after Brock Lesnar was implicated in Janel Grant's sex trafficking lawsuit, with Lesnar later being outright named in the amended lawsuit filed in January 2025.

While Lesnar is not a defendant in the lawsuit filed against Vince McMahon and WWE, it is alleged that the prospect of sexual encounters with Janel Grant was a factor in Lesnar re-signing with WWE in 2021. Lesnar also allegedly directed Grant to film herself urinating and send the video to him, a directive which she complied with.

Brock Lesnar's return at SummerSlam was also a factor in WWE scrapping their traditional post-show press conferences, and it played a factor in WWE returning John Cena to his babyface role.
