WrestleMania 42 is just a few weeks away and much of the card has already been made official for WWE's biggest weekend of the year, including the United States Championship match, which will see Sami Zayn defend the gold against Trick Williams.

Zayn has only been champion for one week, having answered Carmelo Hayes' open challenge and defeated him for the United States Title on the March 27 episode of Friday Night SmackDown. Zayn ultimately picked up the win following interference from Trick Williams, who inadvertently punched his former ally, which allowed Zayn to hit a Helluva Kick for the pinfall victory.

Sami Zayn vs. Trick Williams was made official for WrestleMania 42 in the aftermath of Zayn's title win, but the manner of Hayes' losing the belt suggested the United States Championship match could be switched to a Triple Threat. WrestleVotes Radio on Fightful Select has reported there is no update on Carmelo Hayes being added to WrestleMania 42, but WWE are aware of the online criticism about Hayes being omitted from the United States Title picture.

Carmelo Hayes ultimately had a 98-day reign as United States Champion where he would defend the belt on an almost-weekly basis in open challenges. Altogether, Hayes had eight successful title defences against the likes of Leon Slater, Matt Cardona, and El Hijo de Dr. Wagner Jr. before his loss to Zayn.
