Visual Concepts - the developers of the WWE 2K series, as well as NBA 2K - have carried out layoffs at the company. Several now-former employees at Visual Concepts noted on LinkedIn on Wednesday, May 13 they had been let go by the organisation.
Mike Straw of Insider Gaming has reported the layoffs have affected the developmental teams behind the WWE 2K series more than NBA 2K. The company-wide layoffs impacted the teams working on WWE games the hardest, which includes the departments working on the main WWE 2K series and the Netflix edition of WWE 2K25.
It is unknown exactly how many members of staff were let go but "it wasn't insignificant", according to Straw. An entire team within Visual Concepts was left without any projects after Netflix opted not to renew the deal to produce Netflix editions of WWE 2K26 and WWE 2K27. Sources within Netflix noted to Straw that the Netflix edition of WWE 2K25 didn't "meet expectations."
Visual Concepts began working on the WWE 2K series with WWE 2K14, assisting YUKE'S on the series until WWE 2K19. Visual Concepts have been the sole developers on the WWE 2K series since WWE 2K20. The series has received positive reviews since WWE 2K22, following a one-year hiatus. The latest WWE game was WWE 2K26, released on March 13.
