Tomohiro Ishii's injury on AEW Dynamite may not be as serious as first feared.
Ishii teamed with his Conglomeration stablemate Orange Cassidy against Gabe Kidd and Clark Connors on the February 18 episode of Dynamite from the Memorial Auditorium in Sacramento, California. Following a comeback lariat from Gabe Kidd, Ishii began holding his hamstring and he collapsed to the mat soon after.
Ishii was able to gut through the rest of the match, while still grabbing his hamstring at intervals, and The Conglomeration ultimately picked up the win after Big Tom hit a sheer drop brainbuster on Clark Connors. After the match, both referee Rick Knox and Orange Cassidy checked on Ishii and the former NEVER Openweight Champion was eventually able to get to his feet.
Since AEW Dynamite, Dave Meltzer has reported on Wrestling Observer Radio that AEW believe they may have dodged a bullet and Ishii may not have suffered a torn hamstring.
"Ishii, from what I gather, is not hurt badly. It looked like he tore his hamstring, but the only thing I heard afterwards is that, 'We dodged a bullet' when I asked about Ishii. I don't know any more details than 'We dodged a bullet' or 'It looks like we dodged a bullet.' 'We dodged a bullet' may sound like it's confirmed that he's okay. It was more 'We may have', so I don't want to take that out of context," Meltzer said.
While still a wrestler for New Japan, Ishii has had several stints in AEW through the NJPW-AEW working relationship.
