Brody King will have the opportunity to become AEW World Champion on Saturday, February 14 when he challenges MJF for the strap at Grand Slam Australia.
Are there plans for Brody King to actually win the belt, though? According to Sean Ross Sapp on a Fightful Select Answers Q&A, King wasn't scheduled to defeat MJF for the AEW World Title as of last week when he squashed Maxwell Jacob Friedman in a world title eliminator to earn the Grand Slam Australia match. It is unknown if those plans have since changed following the sheer amount of mainstream attention King received due to "F*ck ICE" chants inside Las Vegas' Pearl Theater ahead of last week's match.
Grand Slam Australia will be the first time Brody King has challenged for the AEW World Title proper since joining the company in 2022. King did unsuccessfully challenge Jon Moxley for the Interim AEW World Title in the summer of 2022, however.
King found himself at the centre of controversy this week after an incorrect report from Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer claimed the former AEW World Tag Team Champion had been blocked from working the February 11 episode of Dynamite by Warner Bros. Discovery due to fears of further "F*ck ICE" chants. WBD later issued a statement denying this was the case, and it has since been revealed that King was absent from Dynamite as he was travelling to Australia.
