All Elite Wrestling are set to scrap the AEW Continental Championship, with the title set to be unified with the AEW International Title at All In on July 12 to create the AEW Unified Championship. The inaugural Unified Champion will be the winner of Kenny Omega vs. Kazuchika Okada V, with Omega the reigning International Champion and Okada the reigning Continental Champion.
While the Continental Championship may soon no longer be in existence, that won't be the case for the Continental Classic. Fightful Select has reported that the word within All Elite Wrestling is the Continental Classic is here to stay.
All Elite Wrestling created the Continental Title and Continental Classic in 2023, with Eddie Kingston winning the inaugural tournament to become Continental Champion, as well as Triple Crown Champion due to already holding the ROH World Title and NJPW STRONG Openweight Championship.
Eddie Kingston dropped the Continental Championship to Kazuchika Okada in March 2024, and Okada retained the belt in the 2024 Continental Classic, defeating Will Ospreay in the tournament final.
