Triple H pursing his lips on WWE: Unreal

Chief Content Officer Triple H has received "internal criticism" within WWE over plans changing for WrestleMania 42 and there has been disappointment within the company over ticket sales for WWE's biggest weekend of the year.

That is according to Dave Meltzer on Wrestling Observer Radio, who noted that plans for WrestleMania 42 have changed again:

"Before the Rumble they had a complete card for WrestleMania. I was told that everything is up in the air. The way it was described to me is, and this makes no sense but this is how I was told, they're disappointed with the advance. It's down about 18 per cent from last year at the same time. I think they'll still fill it but they are disappointed. The problem is is that they think changing the card that nobody knows, because literally people only know one match, so changing the card, it's not like if they have a bad card out there and people aren't buying tickets. If that was the case, yeah sure, think about changing the card.

"They don’t have a card out there, so there's been a lot of internal criticism of Paul Levesque as far as like they keeping changing the plans essentially, like Vince. They have a plan and then they change the plan and right now everything is up in the air….Who knows what's going to happen. Even Cody Rhodes and Drew is not a sure thing right now. All of the other matches are not a sure thing. The only match that’s a sure thing right now is CM Punk and Roman Reigns."

WWE's plans for WrestleMania 42 have already changed multiple times. The original planned main events of WrestleMania dating back to before Crown Jewel 2025 were Cody Rhodes vs. CM Punk for the Undisputed WWE Championship and Roman Reigns vs. Seth Rollins for the World Heavyweight Title. Those plans changed after Seth Rollins suffered a shoulder injury at Crown Jewel and the WrestleMania plan coming out of Survivor Series was Cody Rhodes vs. Roman Reigns for the WWE Title and CM Punk vs. Bron Breakker for the World Heavyweight Championship.

Those plans lasted until early January when they were changed for Roman Reigns vs. CM Punk for the WHC Title and Cody Rhodes vs. Drew McIntyre for the WWE Championship, with it being possible that Jacob Fatu will be added to Rhodes vs. McIntyre to make it a Triple Threat.

Meltzer reported in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter that 36,964 tickets had been sold for WrestleMania Saturday, while 36,737 tickets had been sold for WrestleMania Sunday. Both nights were above 44,000 at the same time in 2025 for WrestleMania 41.

Ticket prices are also high for WrestleMania 42, with the cheapest one-day tickets being $266 and rising to $16,000. Tickets for both nights begin at $738 and rise to $46,000.

WrestleMania will emanate from Las Vegas' Allegiant Stadium for the second year in a row on Saturday, April 18 and Sunday, April 19.
