Tony Hinchcliffe has appeared in WWE in some way, shape or form on multiple occasions over the last year. He was host of the very controversial “Roast Of WrestleMania” event in which leaked jokes were met with scorn, in addition to a controversial appearance as part of WWE’s commentary team in which fun was poked as Big E’s career-ending injury. WWE had also planned a “WWE Late Night” which was ultimately cancelled. Things could once have been very different for WWE and Hinchcliffe, with the claim that he was once offered a job.
Speaking on the Joe Rogan Experience, Hinchliffe revealed that he turned down a role as part of WWE’s writing team.
“It was only a couple of years into me doing stand-up seven nights a week at the Comedy Store. Someone is like, ‘Hey, I have a friend in WWE if you want to have a meeting with them to talk.’ I went in with straight up ideas. I went in with a whole thing. The guy is like, ‘Where the hell? This is crazy. You just did this?’ ‘Yeah, I found out a couple of days ago we were going to talk.’ They offered it, but I would have had to move to Connecticut and take a train to New York every night to go do stand-up, and that would have been exhausting. Anywhere else but Connecticut would have made more sense. New York City, no brainer. LA, definitely.”
On the back of the cancelled “WWE Late Night”, it was revealed that WWE were still open to working with him going forwards.
