After 19 years with the organisation, Sheamus is leaving WWE.
Fightful Select has reported that Sheamus is set to leave the company after his contract expired. WWE approached the multi-time world champion about signing a contract extension for a restructured deal while he was out of action with an injury, which Sheamus "swiftly rejected." Sheamus' deal was set to expire within months of the approach anyway, which Fightful noted meant there wasn't a need for an imminent release.
With his departure, it means Sheamus' last WWE match was also John Cena's final Monday Night Raw match as they teamed with Rey Mysterio against The Judgment Day in a six-man tag on the November 17, 2025 episode of Raw. Sheamus sustained a shoulder injury, though, and subsequently underwent shoulder injury. He had been training at the WWE Performance Center in recent months.
Sheamus joined WWE in 2007 and was quickly pushed upon moving to the main roster in 2009, winning the WWE Championship for the first time at TLC 2009, just a couple of months after his main roster debut. Sheamus would remain in and around the main event scene until the end of 2015, during which he added another WWE Title reign to his list of accolades, along with two World Heavyweight Title runs and a WWE World Heavyweight Championship reign.
From 2016, Sheamus would cement himself as a workhorse in WWE, first through his tag team with Cesaro as The Bar until 2019, and then as a singles talent until his departure. Since 2020, Sheamus' main goal had been winning the Intercontinental Championship, something he ultimately never did despite challenging for the belt on 10 occasions across his WWE career.
There is currently no word on Sheamus' next destination, or if he plans to continue wrestling at 48 years old.
Overall, Sheamus ends his WWE career as a four-time world champion, three-time United States Champion, five-time tag team champion, and a former Money in the Bank Ladder Match, King of the Ring, and Royal Rumble winner.
It was announced in September 2024 that Sheamus had re-signed with WWE, with Sheamus noting in January 2025 that it was a five-year deal. How his contract came to expire in the summer of 2026 is unknown.
