Saraya Reveals AEW Romance Storyline She Rejected

At the back end of March, it was revealed that Saraya had officially parted ways with AEW, ending her two and a half year stay with the company, which marked her return to the ring after previously being forced into an early retirement. 

Since exiting AEW, Saraya has spoken positively on her time in the promotion and talked favourably about the locker room, though she has since revealed a rejected pitch for a love storyline involving ‘Daddy Magic’ Matt Menard. Speaking on her Rulebreakers podcast, she revealed her rejection of the angle. 

“Daddy Magic, they wanted me to do a love story line with him. And I’ve managed to go on my whole career without doing a love storyline, and I wasn’t gonna start. They were like, ‘No, all he’s gonna do is kiss you.’ I had a boyfriend at the time, and I was just like, ‘I can’t do it, you guys. I just can’t do it.’ So I turned down that.

“There’s not really anything storyline-wise else I’ve turned down. It’s just like, if I have to kiss someone and I have a boyfriend, I just don’t think it’s appropriate. I’ve never really had like them come up to me and be like, ‘What do you think of this? You want to kiss somebody today?’ I’ve never had that until I got to AEW. Then they were like, ‘Can you kiss Daddy Magic?’ I love Daddy Magic, good guy, but I just couldn’t do it. I couldn’t do it.”

It is likely that this pitch came alongside the romantic storyline involving the respective tag team partners of Saraya and Daddy Magic - Ruby Soho and Angelo Parker. Saraya would also reveal recently that she was open to a return to WWE, but hadn’t opened up any talks. She would also reveal her disappointment in her own in-ring performances throughout her AEW run.
