Sammy Guevara's AEW Status Officially Confirmed

AEW CEO Tony Khan officially confirmed during the pre-Redemption media call that nothing has changed with Sammy Guevara's status with the promotion. Khan noted Guevara reached out to him amidst the speculation about his future and stated that he "wasn't trying to do anything."

"Sammy, I thought it was unusual that people said there was a change in Sammy's status because nothing had changed… As I understand it when Sammy changed his bio, I don't think Sammy ever had AEW in the bio in the first place. So I don't think it was any negative change, and I got a nice message from Sammy saying he wasn't trying to do anything bad and he loves AEW. And I believe that," Khan said.

"Sammy has been a good wrestler for us in AEW and ROH. He's a great talent and a very good person, so I don't think he meant to do anything and it seemed like people jumped on it for something he didn't even do. Certainly just messing around with a Twitter bio. It's pretty amazing people would jump to conclusions but also jump on him, and in my opinion, in this case probably unfairly."

Speculation was fuelled about Sammy Guevara's future with AEW on July 19 after he tweeted "new bio", with it being noticed that AEW was not mentioned in the X/Twitter bio. It was soon reported, though, that Guevara remained under contract with All Elite Wrestling.

Sammy Guevara has been signed with AEW since February 2019. He is a three-time AEW TNT Champion and three-time ROH World Tag Team Champion.

Guevara's wife in Tay Melo will soon no longer be a part of All Elite Wrestling, however, as Khan announced that he will be granting Melo her release from the promotion after she informed him in June that she wished to step away from professional wrestling.
