The reason for Sami Zayn's lack of matches since SummerSlam has been revealed.
Zayn noted on last week's SmackDown that he had been dealing with a broken hand. This injury isn't part of a storyline, though, and PWInsider has noted that Zayn has legitimately broken his hand.
Zayn was booked to face Cody Rhodes on the August 14 edition of Friday Night SmackDown but the match never ended up taking place after Randy Orton attacked Rhodes before the bell.
Sami Zayn's most recent match saw him fail to become number one contender for the Undisputed WWE Championship, with Zayn being pinned by his best friend in the returning Kevin Owens. The match was originally, in storyline, scheduled to be a singles match with Finn Balor, but Owens and Gunther were added to the contest by SmackDown General Manager Nick Aldis immediately before the match.
This has played into Zayn's current paranoia of being screwed over by WWE, which has been ongoing for much of the year and was only enhanced after he lost the Undisputed WWE Title to CM Punk on the July 6 episode of Raw, just nine days after Zayn won the belt at Night of Champions.
