Former WWE star Rhino has revealed that the company initially wanted him to portray the little brother of Edge and Christian when he first joined in 2001.
During a recent appearance on The False Finish, the Man Beast explained WWE's initial idea for him, saying "They wanted to dye my hair and have me as their little brother".
However, Edge and Christian - who were friends with Rhino after wrestling together on the independent circuit in the mid-90s - went to WWE management and got them to change course.
"Adam and Jay both went to them [WWE management] and said, 'Listen, the fans are are going to sh*t all over this'", Rhino said. The 'little brother' aspect was dropped, but Rhino did debut for WWE as the muscle of the highly-decorated Canadian tag team.
The Detroit native debuted as Rhyno, not Rhino, with the former ECW Champion explaining the thought process behind tweaking his name:
"Then they're [WWE] was like, 'Well, we need a different name...[an unamed[ legend actually said, 'Like Chyna, they put a Y. Why don't they change it to a Y?'. So I suggested that".
The 49-year-old free agent is still going strong and recently made his debut for AEW in what was reportedly a one-off appearance.
