Professional wrestling legend Sabu - who passed away on May 11, aged 61 - was able to have a long and illustrious career in the business working for countless promotions, despite the fact he rarely ever spoke.

Sabu's lack of talking certainly helped retain the mystique of the character, but there were other reasons for his hesitancy to hold a microphone.

Though the man himself claimed to be shy and nervous in out-of-character interviews, Sabu's ECW comrade Rhino has revealed another reason for his aversion to doing promos.

Speaking on an AdFreeShows platform, The Man Beast said:

"He told me that when he was a kid watching his uncle [The Sheik wrestle]… his mother looked at him… and she goes, 'If you ever wrestle when you get older, I hope you don't do that [yelling and screaming on promos] because you'll embarrass me'. So he said the only reason why he never talked is he didn't want to embarrass his mom".

Rhino emphasised that it was the "honest-to-God truth", before expressing what Sabu said to him about it:

"'It's not that I can't talk or I don't want to talk…I don't want to embarrass my mom'. That's what he said".

Sabu's best friend Rob Van Dam recently noted that the investigation into his cause of death is delayed as they need the signature of Sabu's estranged wife (who lives in Japan).
