Jeff Cobb has said aloha to New Japan Pro-Wrestling and is widely expected to join WWE, despite announcing his retirement from professional wrestling.
Cobb exited NJPW after being granted his release, wrestling his last match in an NJPW ring on April 19 with a quick loss to Hiroshi Tanahashi. Per a report from WrestleVotes Radio, it is expected that Cobb will debut on WWE’s main roster soon, with his name already being floated in WWE creative circles.
In WWE, there was reportedly some debate as to where Cobb should end up. Those pushing for Cobb on the main roster pointed to his age - Cobb turns 43 in the Summer - whilst some in NXT were lobbying to bring Cobb in due to his leadership potential, and a perceived lack of male stars currently on the brand.
Still, Cobb took to X/Twitter to announce his retirement, posting the following alongside a picture of him in the ocean looking out to sea:
“16 years is a long time to work, Happy Retirement to me…. I’ll let the waves take me to my next destination. Can I wade in your water, until I catch your wave.”
