Kenny Omega vs. Kevin Knight for the AEW World Championship will be the main event of the Redemption pay-per-view, but it wasn't either of the wrestlers who were behind that decision.
According to Fightful Select, MJF was the "driving creative force" behind Kevin Knight challenging Kenny Omega for the AEW World Title on July 26 as Friedman had long wanted whoever was TNT Champion at the time to face Omega after The Best Bout Machine defeated MJF for the belt. The challenger didn't specifically have to be Kevin Knight, just whoever was TNT Champion at the time, but MJF was in favour of Knight vs. Omega.
Fightful Select also noted that Friedman was in favour of Knight joining the Don Callis Family but MJF has denied that he pushed for Knight to be a part of the faction.
Kevin Knight has been on the receiving end of a push throughout 2026 and he ultimately turned heel on Darby Allin in the closing moments of the Double or Nothing pay-per-view in May. Knight then joined the Don Callis Family and has since set the record for the most TNT Title defences during a single reign.
The original plans for AEW Redemption called for MJF to drop the AEW World Championship to Kenny Omega at the pay-per-view, but those plans were brought forward to the special Beach Break edition of Dynamite on July 8.
MJF has been absent from AEW TV since dropping the world title to Kenny Omega but he is expected to be factored into plans for All In.
