Chad Gable was ruled out of action earlier this year, getting sidelined with a shoulder injury that would require surgery. Back in June, it was noted that Gable was expected to be out of action for up to six months. During his absence, his alter ego (allegedly) gimmick of El Grande Americano continued to be featured, now portrayed by Ludwig Kaiser (also allegedly). The gimmick has taken on a life of its own with a faction, getting over in AAA, and more.

It was reported in the last week that Chad Gable was set for an impending WWE return, either before or at the January 31 Royal Rumble premium live event in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. This has raised questions over whether or not Gable will return to take back the mantle of El Grande Americano, taking back the mask. According to WrestleVotes Radio on Fightful Select, don’t expect to see Gable back under the mask.

It has been reported that WWE’s plans do not feature Kaiser relinquishing the gimmick any time soon, not even after Gable makes his return from injury. Whether that means Gable will be done with the gimmick for good is unclear, but it seems that WWE’s plans rest around Kaiser remaining the man under the mask.
