OVW referee Dallas Edwards is back at home after a scary in-ring incident at the March 12 episode of OVW TV from Davis Arena in Louisville, Kentucky.
Edwards was refereeing a match on the show when he was involved in a ref bump spot where he received a springboard forearm. Edwards, as planned, collapsed to the mat but he quickly began convulsing. There was a complete lack of urgency in responding to Edwards' condition, however, and wrestler Tony Evans even moved the convulsing Edwards out of the way so he could continue with the match before the contest was halted and the referee finally received medical attention.
Bryan Alvarez of the Wrestling Observer has reported that Dallas Edwards is now at home recovering, having been discharged from hospital on Sunday.
Edwards noted in a statement following the incident that he suffered a concussion and a subdural haematoma and that he would be taking some time away to improve his health.
Tony Evans also issued his own statement, explaining that he didn't understand the severity of the incident in the moment and that he has already made peace with Edwards.
OVW's Al Snow has since claimed that due to the referee being the central point of communication, it resulted in a delay in providing Edwards with medical attention. The promotion are currently reviewing and updating their in-ring and ringside safety protocols, which includes improved communications and additional referee training.
