NJPW took over the Fukuoka Convention Center in Fukuoka for the second billing of their Wrestling Dontaku event earlier today, and it proved to be a very emotional night for the promotion. The show marked the final NJPW match for the iconic Tetsuya Naito, whose NJPW exit was revealed last month. BUSHI will also be following Naito out, with this marking his final appearance too.
Naito & BUSHI teamed up with fellow Los Ingobernables de Japon members Hiromu Takahashi & Shingo Takagi, taking on Just 4 Guys, Tomohiro Ishii & Shota Umino in a winning effort to bow out on their NJPW careers. The likes of Ishii dominated some of the early offense in the match, but Naito would unleash with a hot tag, showcasing all his greatest hits, as did BUSHI. In the end, it was Takagi who won for his team, hitting the Last Of The Dragon on Taka Michinoku.
The night two show was headlined by two big title matches, with the main event seeing Hirooki Goto successfully defend the IWGP Heavyweight Championship against Callum Newman. Goto began the match in control until Newman nailed a plancha to even the score. After a vertical drop was hit on Goto, the champion got back into the match, and the pair went back and forth with some impactful dropkicks, dives, brutal forearms, and even a spit in the face from Newman to Goto. As the match pressed on, a GTR scored a near-fall. Newman was gradually tiring, but he managed to hit a Rainmaker for a close two count, but in the end it was Goto who retained, hitting two GTR’s to get the job done. Post-match, Zack Sabre Jr declared first dibs on a title shot.
Elsewhere, Yota Tsuji successfully defended the IWGP Global Championship against rival Yuyu Uemara, adding another great bout to their catalog. Naito, BUSHI and Los Ingobernales de Japon emerged in the aftermath, with Tsuji taking the kneeling position of Naito as the former champion bade his farewell. In the aftermath, Gabe Kidd challenged Tsuji to a match at Dominion on June 15.
On Night One, the most notable happenings saw House Of Torture expelled from BULLET CLUB, losing in a main event ten man Steel Cage match against the War Dogs, where the losing faction would be kicked out of the wider BULLET CLUB group. Both Zack Sabre Jr & Shingo Takagi would also put themselves in world title contention with two big wins over Hiroshi Tanahashi and Shota Umino respectively.
