WWE Hall of Famer Mick Foley has severed ties with the company, announcing on Instagram that he will allow his WWE Legends deal to lapse when it expires in June 2026 due to the organisation's close links with Donald Trump. Foley noted that Trump's comments after the death of Rob Reiner were the final straw for him, and he will not appear on WWE TV while Trump is president of the United States.
Foley wrote:
"PARTING WAYS WITH WWE.
"While I have been concerned about WWE's close relationship with Donald Trump for several months - especially in light of his administration's ongoing cruel and inhumane treatment of immigrants (and pretty much anyone who 'looks like an immigrant') - reading the President's incredibly cruel comments in the wake of Rob Reiner's death is the final straw for me.
"I no longer wish to represent a company that coddles a man so seemingly void of compassion as he marches our country towards autocracy. Last night, I informed @WWE talent relations that I would not be making any appearances for the company as long as this man remains in office.
"Additionally, I will not be signing a new Legends deal when my current one expires in June. I love WWE, will always treasure my time with them, and I am deeply appreciative for all the opportunities they afforded me. But, in the words of Popeye the sailor, 'I stands all I can stands, and I can't stands no more.'"
Rob Reiner and his wife Michele Singer Reiner were found dead in their Los Angeles home on Sunday, with police noting the couple had suffered fatal stab wounds. Their son Nick Reiner was charged with two counts of first-degree murder in the killing of his parents on Tuesday.
Following the announcement of Rob Reiner's death, Donald Trump claimed the Princess Bride director died "due to the anger he caused others through his massive, unyielding, and incurable affliction with a mind-crippling disease known as TRUMP DERANGEMENT SYNDROME." The president of the United States and WWE Hall of Famer then doubled down after being asked by a reporter about his comments, further noting that Reiner "was a deranged person as far as Trump is concerned."
WWE have close links with Trump and the current administration, with WWE Chief Content Officer Triple H standing alongside Trump for executive order signings at the White House in 2025. Former WWE CEO Linda McMahon is also the current United States secretary of education, while several US cabinet members were in attendance for John Cena's last match on December 13.
Reports have noted that WWE wanted Donald Trump to be at Saturday Night's Main Event for Cena's final match, but the 79-year-old decided not to go to the show.
Mick Foley has been connected to WWE across multiple runs with the company since he first debuted as Mankind back in 1996. The hardcore icon is a three-time WWE Champion.
