Matt Sydal has not wrestled for All Elite Wrestling for 18 months, but that doesn't mean the former Evan Bourne is no longer a part of the promotion.

Sean Ross Sapp noted on Fightful Select Answers Q&A that Sydal is still under contract with AEW. All Elite Wrestling's website also still has the 42-year-old listed on the roster page in between Matt Menard and Matt Taven.

Sydal has not appeared on AEW TV since a loss to Konosuke Takeshita on the May 22, 2024 episode of Dynamite. Sydal had been a regular on TV prior to his injury, working 18 matches across AEW and Ring of Honor in 2024, and he even teamed with the Blackpool Combat Club at CMLL Homenaje a Dos Leyendas in March of last year.

Sydal took time off following the match with Takeshita to undergo surgery on his right foot, having worked with an injury for 12 years. Sydal is no longer injured, though, and he made his in-ring return at an independent wrestling show in France in July, losing to Ultimo Dragon. The show also featured Mickie James, Nick Dinsmore as Eugene, and PJ Black.
