Kota Ibushi To Undergo Another Surgery

Kota Ibushi has been out of the ring since October 2025, previously getting injured in a match on AEW Collision against Josh Alexander. It was revealed that Ibushi had suffered a broken femur and was expected to be out of action for up to two years. Earlier this year, Ibushi noted that he was eyeing up a return a year ahead of schedule, though that timetable may now have changed.

The Golden Star took to Instagram this week to reveal that he was set to undergo another surgery. 

“It’s official. Well, I guess that’s just how it is… but I want this to be the last major surgery of my life. Apparently, the plate I had put in in the U.S. was too weak to heal properly (only now!?), so I’m scheduled for surgery on September 17 to replace it with a sturdier, thicker one. I’m told I basically won’t be able to play contact sports, but maybe I’ll be able to make a comeback? Well, either way I hope the day comes when I don’t have to take strong painkillers anymore.” 

Ibushi has had bad luck with injuries over the last half a decade, suffering a serious shoulder injury in 2021 that kept him out of the ring for 18 months, followed by a broken ankle and hand in 2024.
