Kay Lee Ray has clarified her previous comments about her WWE exit, noting on Busted Open Radio that WWE decided not to offer her a new contract, as opposed to her having the option to remain with the company and turning it down.

"I think in the last one I did maybe the words were a little misconstrued. I had been thinking for a while if I wanted to re-sign or not. As I said before, I'd been with WWE for a long time so I at least wanted to give them the courtesy of having that conversation. I knew my contract was up in like three weeks by the time I spoke to them, maybe four, and it was at Mania, so I was like, 'Look, I know we're really, really busy right now. I'm not asking to have that conversation now, but can we have that possibly soon?' Then, unfortunately, I got the call the next week that they didn't want to be offering me anything. So, on that to me, I was like, 'Cool. This was the decision I was already heading towards anyway. If that's the way we want to go, that's fine,'" Kay Lee Ray stated.

Kay Lee Ray - the former Alba Fyre - noted following her first match since exiting WWE that she "had the decision of whether I wanted to stay or not" and her WWE deal ultimately expired. The former NXT UK Women's Champion wrestled her first post-WWE match at Pro-Wrestling: EVE 150, answering Molly Spartan's open challenge.

While discussing who she would like to face next inside the squared circle with Busted Open Radio, Kay Lee Ray mentioned multiple AEW talents in Willow Nightingale, Kris Statlander, and Mercedes Moné.

"Again, there's so many. Not just opponents but like first-time opponents to me. Some that come off the top of my head, Willow, Stat, Miu, Mercedes. Like, all people that I've just never even crossed paths with that I just can't wait to get in there and just see what story we can create. What magic we can make happen," the former Alba Fyre added.

After Bully Ray pointed out many of those were AEW wrestlers, Kay Lee Ray replied: "It was. Again, people that AEW started when I was with WWE. So, again, a lot of the girls that are coming through there I've never even crossed paths with. Again, there's girls in Japan who were not babies, but they were babies to me when I was there, like Starlight Kid and stuff. Imagine getting in the ring with her now, like it would just be amazing. It really would be. So, yeah, just excited to see what the future can bring."

Kay Lee Ray performed for WWE on a full-time basis from 2019 until her release in April 2026. She is a one-time NXT UK Women's Champion, one-time NXT Women's Tag Team Champion, and one-time WWE Women's Tag Team Champion.
