Jim Ross Suffers Fall Following Brain Surgery

Despite his incredibly ambitious goal, Jim Ross won't be at Sunday's AEW All In pay-per-view just a couple of weeks after undergoing brain surgery upon the advice of his doctors.

"Both my brain surgeon and another doctor confided and said, 'You need to steer your ass off the airplane because if you fall or get hurt they've got to make an emergency landing, or you fall in London and you've got to go to a London hospital. It's not worth the risk.' I understand it, and I'm disappointed. Very disappointed. I'll be watching for sure, but that’s the way it goes sometimes," Ross said on Grilling JR.

The legendary commentator underwent brain shunt surgery on August 12 to remove excess fluid on his brain. Since the surgery, though, JR has revealed that he suffered a fall in his bedroom.

"I'm doing pretty good. Healing slowly but surely. I'm just fighting through it. I fell two nights ago in my bedroom and I fell into my bench. Jan bought a little bench that she sat at the end of our bed so that her cat could get into bed easier. It's still there, but when I fell I broke the son of a b*tch and crashed and burned. My handyman came over and repaired it, so now it's solid… That didn’t do any favours. It's falling to sh*ts, man. If I take my time and don't get in any big hurry, especially when I change direction, I do pretty good. If I don’t take my time, I go right back to that walker, and using a walker in your own home is humbling," JR noted.

Ross has been suffering from "prominent and bad" headaches following surgery but, due to a growth on one of his kidneys that might be cancerous, he has not been prescribed strong pain medication.

Ross said: "I had my oncology appointment because they found a mass on a kidney. I got good news on that. The oncologist thinks I don't have any cancer, but they're not sure. There's a lump there. It may be cancerous, but if so, it's so small they can operate on it and eliminate it. The last thing I want to do is get cancer surgery and then go back to the freakin' hospital for two days. This last stay was eight days. I got good news on that, so I'm blessed there and thankful."

Jim Ross is currently signed to All Elite Wrestling, although his long-term future with the promotion is unknown as his contract is due to expire at the end of August. The 74-year-old has been a part of AEW since 2019 and he signed a one-year extension in August 2025.
