After saying that he had re-signed with WWE, Jake "The Snake" Roberts has clarified his own comments and announced that he is not under contract with the organisation.
"I talked about going back to work for the WWE. Yeah, in some capacity and that capacity’s real simple – signing autographs. Yeah, I went to SummerSlam to sign some autographs and I do some Topps cards here and there. And I enjoy doing it, just like coming out and seeing you guys, signing autographs for you, taking pictures. That’s all there is. I’m not under contract by no way, no means," Roberts stated in a video on X/Twitter.
Roberts also revealed that he has quit smoking after 50 years as he attempts to improve his health and stop using supplemental oxygen.
"Yes, I'm on oxygen. Why? Because I was a fool and because of genetics. Genetically, I was given emphysema and COPD. And like a fool with bad habits that I picked up along my way, smoking. Yeah, I smoked for 50 fr*ggin’ years, man, but I quit. I quit five weeks ago and I’m sticking with it. No brainer, right? Because there’s a procedure they can do but you’ve got to be clean for six months before they’ll do it. They will help me get off of oxygen. So thumbs up, we’re all good here. Going to be around for a long time so get used to it," the WWE Hall of Famer added.
Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is the name of a group of lung conditions that cause breathing difficulties. This includes emphysema, which is damage to the air sacs in the lungs and it is a common condition in older adults who smoke.
Roberts' comments suggest he is simply still signed to his WWE Legends deal, which has been in place for several years. Roberts was actually still signed to his WWE Legends deal while under contract with All Elite Wrestling, with both sides giving their blessing for the other deal. Roberts exited AEW earlier this year after six years with the organisation.
