Independent wrestler John Wayne Murdoch was rushed to the hospital following a scary incident at Juggalo Championship Wrestling's Powder Keg event (on August 2).
Murdoch (a late replacement for the injured Effy) was involved in a six-way deathmatch also featuring 1 Called Manders, Matt Tremont, Mickie Knuckles, 2 Tuff Tony and Mad Man Pondo. During the match, Murdoch was put through a door that had been set on fire. Regrettably, the fire quickly got out of control, setting both Murdoch and the ring canvas on fire as the other wrestlers in the match (as well as ringside personnel) frantically attempted to put out the flames.
On X, the so-called 'Duke of Hardcore' provided an update on his condition, writing:
"Just got released from the hospital I'm in pain but alive and breathing and that's all that matters! My bad luck continues just wish it would take a break and let me live a little lol!".
He later shared a [NSFW] picture of the damage the spot did to his back, a significant portion of which was burned.
In 2023, deathmatch veteran Masada accidentally set himself on fire during XPW's King of the Deathmatch tournament when he blew alcohol on a kendo stick that had been set ablaze, causing his beard and vest to similarly go up in flames.
