There has been a big blow to Gabe Kidd as the 2025 G1 Climax officially kicked off yesterday. Kidd competed in his first match in the G1 Climax 35 against Konosuke Takeshita, but he didn’t come out unscathed when the contest was finished.

One night after losing to Konosuke Takeshita in Block A, Kidd emerged on Night 2 of the G1 Climax on crutches, forfeiting his scheduled match with IWGP Heavyweight Champion Zack Sabre Jr., revealing he’d hyperextended his knee in the match against Takeshita. Kidd noted in his promo that he didn’t want to withdraw from the tournament as of yet, and eyed up a return to action to complete his matches when he’s healed - indicating that the injury may not be too severe. Presently the status of Kidd in the rest of the tournament is unknown. Earlier this month, Hirooki Goto withdrew from the G1 Climax due to injury.

Over the last few months, Kidd has been appearing on AEW programming as a de facto member of The Death Riders, competing at AEW All In Texas 2025 alongside Claudio Castagnoli and Wheeler Yuta in a losing effort for the AEW World Trios Championships.
