El Hijo del Vikingo was already expected to be out of action for nine months due to a torn ACL, but the former AAA Mega Champion's stint on the shelf may have been extended as he had to undergo a second knee surgery.

Vikingo announced on Instagram that he was due to undergo another knee procedure and the 29-year-old noted on October 6 that the surgery was successful, writing (translated): "God is with me I can't lose, thanks for your support the operation was successful."

Vikingo sustained a torn ACL on June 30 at the WWE Performance Center while he was preparing for his NXT match with EK Prosper. This resulted in Vikingo being written off TV with a backstage attack from Keanu Carver. Vikingo's most recent televised match, however, was an unsuccessful challenge for the AAA Cruiserweight Championship against Rey Fenix on the July 3 episode of WWE SmackDown due to the show being taped on June 29.

Vikingo, one of the best high-flyers in the world during the early 2020s, has suffered from multiple knee issues in recent years beginning in February 2024 when he sustained a torn meniscus. The injury forced Vikingo to vacate the AAA Mega Championship, ending his reign after 833 days.

El Hijo del Vikingo has remained one of Lucha Libre AAA Worldwide's top stars since the WWE acquisition in 2025, and he was the reigning AAA Latin American Champion until he was forced to vacate the belt due to the June knee injury.
