WWE’s special edition of Saturday Night’s Main Event in which John Cena retired from the professional wrestling business is now officially in the history books as the promotion took over the Capital One Arena in Washington, D.C. last night. During the show, several big names from NXT were featured, as NXT Champion battled WWE Champion Cody Rhodes, Sol Ruca took on Bayley, and the team of Je’Von Evans and TNA’s Leon Slater stepped up to face World Tag Team Champions AJ Styles & Dragon Lee. More has been learned on how this match card came together.

Fightful Select have reported that John Cena was a heavy influence in WWE booking this NXT vs. main roster card, being described as the “driving force” behind suggesting that WWE go down this route at the event. It was noted that Cena was not involved in picking the specific talent who wrestled on the night, with that being left up to WWE.

On the show, Oba Femi vs. Cody Rhodes ended via disqualification and AJ Styles & Dragon Lee defeated the duo of Je’Von Evans & Leon Slater, but NXT’s Sol Ruca managed to score a big victory over Bayley. It was reported in the build up that the backstage reaction in TNA to Slater's booking was very positive.
