AEW has been thrust into the mainstream spotlight over the last week thanks to some chants that broke out prior to the February 4 AEW Dynamite main event between AEW World Champion MJF and Brody King. In the past, King wore a t-shirt sharing some unflattering words towards the United States Immigration & Customs Enforcement, ICE, prompting both positive and negative responses to the AEW wrestler.
Following weeks of continued outrage, tension, and news stories regarding ICE, protests, and deaths, the fans at the Pearl Theater At Palms Casino Resort in Las Vegas, Nevada showered King & MJF in chants of “F*ck ICE”. Referee Bryce Remsburg hinted on social media that he waited to ring the bell in order to allow the chants to continue. This chant being on live television has drummed up plenty of conversation and headlines for AEW across mainstream media.
When it comes to AEW’s reaction to this media attention, it is reportedly a positive one. It has been revealed by Fightful Select that those in AEW are quite happy with the noise created by the chant. It was also noted that those in AEW were also happy with how much presence and attention wrestling was getting at the Super Bowl media row too.
