NJPW and the wrestling world was rocked recently by the revelation that legend of the company, Tetsuya Naito, would be parting ways with New Japan Pro Wrestling, with the two sides mutually agreeing to not sign a new deal, with Naito finishing up next month after May 4’s Wrestling Dontaku event.
It was noted soon after that NJPW were not offering the amount that Naito was looking for when it came to a new deal, leading to the mutual exit after back and forth contract negotiations between the two sides. Figthful Select have offered some details about where Naito’s next steps could, or could not, take him in the professional wrestling world, with plenty of speculation lurking around the last few days.
It is noted that the market isn’t hot for Tetsuya Naito, despite his name value in Japan. Naito’s physical condition has been a talking point, with him not the performer he once was with his growing age and build-up of injuries. When it comes to the potential of a WWE run, Fightful has stated that those in both NJPW and WWE are unsure if Naito would pass WWE physicals, even if the promotion was interested. Additionally, despite his previous work in AEW, those in the company have told Fightful that they would “be surprised” if Tony Khan decided to give Naito anything more than one-off appearances. The most likely destination seems to be Pro Wrestling NOAH, with those closer to Naito believing that he’d try his hand in the Japanese promotion.
