The topic of John Cena’s final opponent has been a hotly discussed topic ever since Cena announced that 2025 would serve as his retirement tour before finally hanging up the boots on his lengthy WWE in-ring career. On last night’s Saturday Night’s Main Event, John Cena gave fans some insight into how his final opponent would be decided.
In a video package, Cena announced that a 16-man tournament would take place, starting on Monday Night RAW in Boston on November 10, with the winner being the one to step up and face him at Saturday Night’s Main Event next month in Washington, D.C. He noted that names from RAW, SmackDown, NXT and perhaps names from outside of the company, will be involved.
Current WWE stars such as Gunther, Dominik Mysterio, Penta, Carmelo Hayes, Bronson Reed, LA Knight, Drew McIntyre, Rusev, Solo Sikoa, The Miz and Sheamus were shown on the screen during this video package. Reports recently suggested that Cena could be set to win the Intercontinental Championship in a planned match at Survivor Series with Dominik Mysterio. When it comes to his final opponent, Gunther has been the one thrown around in reports.
