AEW announcer Tony Schiavone once flew cross-country to adopt a rescue dog.

The Seattle, Washington-based outlet KIRO-TV noted that Schiavone was compelled to adopt a dog after former AEW star Saraya showed up backstage with a Chihuahua-beagle mix, leading Schiavone to think, "Holy smokes. I love Chihuahuas. I love beagles. It's perfect".

Saraya informed Schiavone that her boyfriend had adopted the dog from the Motley Zoo in Washington and Schiavone contacted the zoo the next time AEW were in the Seattle area.

The zoo's director showed him some of their adoptable dogs, but the one he wanted wasn't available. In the meantime, Schiavone and his wife had adopted a Beagle from Atlanta, but Schiavone was determined to secure the Chihuahua-beagle mix so he flew to Seattle, took an Uber to Monroe and then brought the dog back home to Georgia in the same day.

The experience led to Schiavone making monthly donations to Motley Zoo, which is a non-profit organisation. He has also made frequent visits back to the zoo.

The 67-year-old is signed to a long-term deal with Tony Khan's promotion.
