Braun Strowman was among the WWE superstars who were let go on Friday, May 2 as part of cuts that also affected office staff, including those working in creative.

It was the second time The Monster Among Men has been released alongside a group of his co-workers, having been cut back in June 2021 (before being rehired in September 20220).

According to The Wrestling Observer's Dave Meltzer, the nature of Strowman's contract likely had something to do with his release this time around.

Speaking on Wrestling Observer Radio, Meltzer said:

"The salary was high. One person told me that they felt he was paid more than how they were using him, I guess is the best way to put it. His salary played a part in this".

The 41-year-old's most recent run was blighted by injury and he missed a year of action after undergoing neck fusion surgery in June 2023.

Braun had supporters within the company, including current co-lead writer of SmackDown, Brian 'Road Dogg' James, who tipped Strowman to be a big star after returning from neck surgery.

The former WWE Universal Champion is bound to a standard 90-day non-compete clause.
