New details have emerged regarding the release of WWE NXT star Riley Osborne.

Osborne was one of many let go by WWE on May 2, with Dave Meltzer suggesting that Riley's situation was unique and didn't have anything to do with his in-ring work.

Speaking on Wrestling Observer Radio, Meltzer said:

"His situation was one of those where it had to do with non-wrestling things. There were…just certain things that happened with him and it kind of led to them taking him off television. But talent-wise, he's there. He's good. He is someone that AEW should at least take a look at, take a chance at. He never really got to show it there, I was always impressed with him and when I was asking people there [in WWE], it's like, 'Oh yeah, he's really good'. He was not cut over talent".

The former Chase U member's last match on NXT television was a loss to Ridge Holland on October 15. He worked WWE Evolve matches in February but didn't perform after that. Osborne revealed following his release that he underwent surgery for an injury on March 7.

Osborne is married to Blair Davenport, who was released by WWE in February.
