This past weekend, it was revealed that WWE star Carlito will be leaving the company once his current contract expires.
Once news of his upcoming departure was made public, the former WWE Intercontinental Champion took to social media to issue a statement, writing:
"My contract is up in 2 weeks. It will not be renewed. On top of that, WWE is demanding I pay back the $ they paid me for apparently 'stealing money' from the company. I've had my lawyers look into it and after reviewing my footage on Netflix for the past months they suggested I pay them back the money.
"All jokes aside, gracias WWE & especially the WWE universe. Los quiero mucho! PS…I'll reappear again in another 13yrs. Dios me los bendiga!"
Carlito initially wrestled for WWE between 2003 and 2010. He made a surprise return as an entrant in the 2021 Royal Rumble match, before emerging once again at Backlash 2023, which took place in his native Puerto Rico.
Based on the very positive reaction to his Backlash appearance, WWE opted to sign him to a full-time deal. Since then, he has notably been a member of the Latino World Order and The Judgment Day stables.
The 46-year-old had previously spoken about wanting to elevate younger talent before finishing up his WWE run.
